Animal Shelter

Hutchinson Shelter

The Hutchinson Animal Shelter provides a centralized location with a safe and healthy environment for the temporary housing of lost animals during the time it takes to reunite them with their owners. The shelter also facilitates a service for owners in various life situations to surrender their animals. Once the animals are available for adoption, the dedicated staff and volunteers of the Hutchinson Animal Shelter work to find these temporarily displaced animals new forever homes.

We are a city-funded animal shelter that's been in operation since January 3, 2006. Our Animal Services department consists of three animal control officers, four shelter technicians and one animal services director. We strive to provide quality service, excellent customer service and an invaluable assistance to the animals and citizens in our community.

Our facility comfortably houses approximately 48 dogs and 44 cats. We do not have a "set" time frame on the amount of time an animal will remain safe in our shelter; that is determined on the animal's is health, adoptability and if we have available kennel space.  We work with many different rescue organizations to transfer out as many animals as we can so that they may safely find their way to a new home.

We offer many programs at our shelter that we're proud of and we are ALWAYS looking for more people to join us and our cause. We have a volunteer and foster program available, Teacher's Pet Program (where you can adopt an already-trained pet), a humane education program and a dog and cat obedience program to offer!
